Commission Sketches

In September, I was commissioned to paint a piece for long-time collectors and friends. So, in mid-October I traveled to visit them, see their favorite spots and get ideas for what the painting might be. I brought along my camera, sketch book and a plein air easel to do some reconnaissance. It was a lot fun to spend time and paint in Lewes, Delaware, a historic town and the surrounding beaches and parks.

Here are the four oil sketches based on photos and sketches I did while on-site. The final painting will be 3 1/2 by 8 feet long. The clients chose the first sketch to be the subject of the final piece. The blank linen canvas is now ready and in my studio. I hope to post the finished piece at some point.

Happy holidays,
Phil
