During the snowy and cold nights here in Maine, I have been doing a bit of reading, as well as busily working in the studio on a new series of figure and cityscape paintings.I just read an excellent interview with artist Eve Mansdorf about observational painting. I identified with her work, perspective and methods, and thought you all might like to read it as well. This particular paragraph resonated with me:"I think there are two distinct experiences or attitudes I tend to want to have. One is the “in the moment” Zen-like sense of just being there and responding to something it front of me–trying to get it in some way. In that moment my brain is almost completely not verbal–it is just saying things like, “…no move it to left, no redder, yes that’s it…”, etc. And there is great pleasure in that. [...] But there is also a pleasure in standing back."
