Painting Steadily for Summer Exhibits

Tidal Zone, oil, 16 x 20 in., ©2014 Philip Frey

Spring greetings!

I've been steadily painting for summer exhibits, punctuated with a fun visit this past weekend along the coast down to Gleason Fine Art and Maine Art Paintings & Sculpture (delivering and picking up paintings) and finally to Portland, Maine. There I attended a reception at Greenhut Galleries Biennial Invitational Portland Show of 50 artist from around the state, including my painting, Ruby Glow. The exhibition was strong and varied in style, from abstract to representational, and everywhere in between. It was great to connect with familiar friends and meet new friends at the reception. I got a chance to chat with friends Daniel Kany (Art critic for the Maine Sunday Telegram), Kelly and Jane Littlefield (Littlefield Gallery) and Marsha Donahue (North Light Gallery), among others. Thank you for the great turnout on a spring day!

"Tidal Zone" (pictured above) is one of six new paintings that will be part of the Choice Show at Maine Art Paintings and Sculpture. It is inspired by my time painting out on Great Cranberry Island, Maine. The light and texture of The Pool, a wonderous tidal pool in the middle of the island, was constantly changing - day by day, hour by hour, and minute by minute. The Choice Show at Maine Art Paintings and Sculpture in Kennebunkport, Maine runs June 7th-26th, 2104 with the reception on June 7th, 5-7pm. Voting starts April 17th.

Enjoy the warmer weather, the arrival of flowers and green grass!

Cheers,
Philip
