New Paintings and Some Musings About Seasons

Dear Friends,

Here are three of six new paintings on my website that are part of Choice Art Show at Maine Art Paintings and Sculpture in Kennebunk. It runs June 7th through June 26th with a reception on June 7th from 5-7pm.

The thread in my latest work is "seasons," if I were to be so bold as to give it name. I've always been interested in color, light and movement and this years focus is no different.

Seasons mean change, renewal, hope and wonder. Seasons are about our senses and our response to them. Seasons are always in flux and can't really be pinned down, even in a painting about them. A painting may seem a static thing, but most all artists know that isn't true by virtue of having created it nor by the varied responses to them by viewers.

As Dzigar Kongtrul writes, "When we trust our creativity we encounter a supreme kind of enjoyment - an amazement at the natural unfolding of life beyond our ordinary way of looking at things." This enjoyment and amazement is what brings artists to create and is what brings others to enjoy the creative process and outcome. Maine is unique in having all the seasons (in spades) and a special, sane environment in which to pursue our creative impulses, to enjoy and be amazed by the wonder of it all.

I invite you to participate in the exhibit by clicking on the Choice Art Show to vote on your favorites. You can also buy tickets to the reception. Hope to see you in beautiful Kennebunk, Maine on June 7th, 2014!

Cheers,
Philip
