Two Shows and a Whole Lot of Sawdust

I'll start with the sawdust since it's embellishing the cuffs of my jeans and shirt as I write this.  My house is undergoing a major transformation this spring and summer.  After 16 years of living in a house without plumbing, I am getting running water.  Which, by extension means that I am getting a bathtub/shower, a flush toilet, bathroom sink and a kitchen renovation that includes a sink.  Additional insulation is being added throughout the house, some new windows are being installed and some of the interior space is being reconfigured.  My house will remain small and fairly simple, but these changes (especially the indoor plumbing) make me feel as if I am upgrading to a luxurious manor house.

Lest you worry that all of my energy is going into selecting kitchen cabinets and purchasing rubber duckies for my new tub, I have been painting and recently sent work to two galleries for summer shows.  Bert Gallery in Providence, Rhode Island is presenting my work for the first time in a show entitled Summer Haunts: Philip Frey and Florence Leif (1913-1968). This is an exhibit of paintings capturing some of my favorite Maine summer spots alongside summer landscapes painted in Truro, Massachusetts by mid-twentieth landscape painter Florence Leif. The gallery has put together a great slideshow of the paintings in the show.

There's still a few more days for you to see my work in the Choice Show at the Maine Art Gallery in Kennebunkport, Maine. The show wraps up on June 26th.  I have six pieces in the show.  The public was invited to vote for favorite pieces by each of a dozen artists in the show.  Before the Rain garnered 25% of the popular vote.  The show looks terrific and I hope you have a chance to see it.
